Report taken from Social Media and Reported by EOS Risk
The initial report concering a single skiff suspicious against a LNG tanker Sokoto 145NM SW of Bonny. Skiff approached to within 100m. MT Sokoto switched off navigation lights and increased speed Skiff has now departed.
This approach follows last night’s attack on the Maersk Cardiff, and was within 5nm of the position of that event. Pirate gangs have recently released hostages after ransoms have been paid, freeing up hostage holding capacity for fresh hostages. It is likely that these events will continue whilst sea conditions permit.
Vessels transiting the region are advised to exercise extreme caution with full anti-piracy measures implemented.
The BW LNG Sokoto has implemented ARX Anti-Piracy Barriers on the sunken poop deck. The ARX ABaC System is a market leading Anti-Piracy Barrier designed to DENY boardings not delay them like conventional methods. Visit http://www.arxmouldings.com/arx-abac to find out more.
