MDAT-GOG NOTICE Released on behalf of MMCC Area E
Description: The Area E experienced 2 attacks between 11 and 14 March 2021. As efforts are intensified by countries across the different areas (F, E and D) to curb this renewed threat, vessels are advised to navigate with extreme caution and vigilance and to maintain strict anti-piracy watch.
All security agents onboard and patrol vessels are requested to be on maximum alert while navigating and at anchorage.
All vessels are advised to remain vigilant, maintain sharp anti-piracy lookouts at sea and anchorages and report any suspicious movements to the nearest maritime authorities particularly in the Area E and MDAT-GOG.
Timely detection of pirates and withdrawal of crew to the citadel is critical. This is still the most effective method of evading pirates.
Fishing vessels are advised to be extremely vigilant since they can be easily attacked considering their peculiar vulnerabilities of low free board, slow speed and less manoeuvrability.
It is the ARX recommendation that all owners and operators install correct and enhanced primary hardening measures. These include the ARX ABaC System and the ARX Evictor. The ARX Anti-Piracy Barrier will stop a boarding taking place.
